Mental Health #SystemPerfect

Following the success of #SystemPerfect week in October 2018, a week of dedicated action and awareness raising of mental health services will take place from Tuesday 26 March for seven consecutive days in Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

System Perfect is a week-long exercise where all health and social care services across Doncaster come together to ensure things are running as efficiently as possible. This means that we make sure the right people are available, at the right time, to make the right decisions to help patient flow, both within our hospitals and communities. Being System Perfect means that we have all hands on deck, ensuring the best possible experience for the patient.

The focus of #MHSystemPerfectSYB is to raise awareness of mental health services across Doncaster and Bassetlaw, extending our reach across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region so people can make more informed choices about how to access support relating to their mental and emotional health and wellbeing with the aim of preventing escalation of needs to crisis point and reduce the number of people visiting the emergency department.

Over the last 12 months, like most areas across the country, we have seen a rise in the number of people attending the emergency departments at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital when they need mental health support or when they are in crisis.

Throughout this week of action, the System Perfect team will seek to better understand the use of the emergency department for people when they experience mental health crisis, as well as raising awareness of the wide range of services that operate across Doncaster and Bassetlaw to support and address individual mental health needs.

Some of the key messages that we want to share with patients and members of the public across Doncaster and Bassetlaw are as follows:

  • There are many different services available in your local area for you to talk in confidence which will support and address your mental health needs. You are never alone
  • There are many services available that are equipped and able to support you, no matter how big or small you think your problems are. Seeking help early on may help to keep you well and avoid crisis management at the emergency department
  • A range of Drug and Alcohol services are here to support people making informed choices about their use in a confidential way.

As part of our aim to raise awareness of the different services available to support individuals with mental health issues, we have created a short survey, designed to capture people’s awareness of the different services and find out where they would go for help, support and advice. Please take a couple of minutes to share your views and thoughts with us.

The responses from this survey will help shape future services in Doncaster and Bassetlaw.
