  1. Good afternoon
I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for 43 years. As I get older I have found it increasingly difficult to control my blood sugar levels. Two days ago I was fitted with a Freestyle libre blood glucose monitoring system as a trial. In just two days I have found it a huge help in controlling my blood sugar levels. I was told that I would be able to get the replacement sensors from a number of outlets but as Doncaster CCG had not yet decided who would have them on prescription, I would have to pay. I have visited all of the outlets listed and none of them had any or could get any sensors.
What I would like to know is why it is taking Doncaster so long to make the decision about free prescription supplies. Surely all type 1 diabetics should have access. The money saved, I would have thought would outweigh the cost. I have the sensor for 14 days until 5th August when it will be no longer active! How long are we going to have to wait for a decision. Type 1 diabetics in other parts of the country have already been issued, including the prime minister. Surely this is discrimination based on where you live!

    1. Hi Maureen and thanks for your comment. A decision has now been reached on Flash Glucose Monitoring in Doncaster which can be found here: We hope this is both helpful and useful. All areas across the country are following advice given by NHS England, including Doncaster. Each Clinical Commissioning Group is requested to follow this guidance and we have been doing this in line with the national guidance.
