THE founder of a Doncaster-based charity had the tables turned on her when she arranged a special outing for over 30 local people with dementia and their carers.
Eileen Harrington was planning to keep her 73rd birthday secret but members of DonMentia had other ideas after an organised lunch at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Eileen thought she had got away with it until Anne Dawson, from Bentley, stepped up and presented her with a hand-knitted birthday cake and members chimed in with a rendition of Happy Birthday.
A delighted Eileen said: “I was trying to keep it quiet but it was still a lovely gesture”.
Eileen, who lives in Scawthorpe, founded DonMentia nearly four years ago and now raises funds to pay for regular trips out for Doncaster people who have dementia, and their carers, to give them a welcome break.
