Local residents find out more about cancer

World-Cancer-Day-2016-278x185A coffee morning in Doncaster, held to make residents aware of the local services and support available to people affected by cancer, has been a huge success.

The event, held at St John’s Information and Support Centre on Friday (Feb 5) was to mark World Cancer Day.

Staff from the Living Well Cancer Information Service, based on the Tickhill Road Hospital site, off Weston Road, Balby, hosted the event and worked with staff from a range of partner organisations. Information was also available about reducing cancer risk through lifestyle changes and the importance of the national cancer screening programmes.

The Living Well Service is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

Joanne O’Marr, Macmillan Living Well Cancer Information Service Lead, who works at the support centre, said: “The day has been a huge success. If you couldn’t come along and you need advice on the range of local services and support available to people in Doncaster living with a cancer diagnosis, and their families please ring me on 01302 796919 for more information.”
