Local Healthwatch makes it even easier for people to volunteer

Healthwatch Doncaster is looking to recruit volunteers from across the Doncaster area.  We want to give the people of Doncaster, in particularly those who are seldom heard, a chance to have their say about health and social care provision locally.

We need more volunteers to help us do that and so we have made our volunteer offer even more flexible to enable more people to get involved.

Healthwatch Doncaster’s existing volunteer team has adapted their normal volunteering routine due to Covid-19. The plan is that going forward these adaptations will make it easier for people to get involved in making it easier for people and communities to:

  • Be well informed about issues relating to health and social care locally and nationally
  • Have their voices heard about their experiences of accessing services in order to influence the people who commission the services and those who provide them

Healthwatch Doncaster Engagement and Volunteer Co-Ordinator Sandie Hodson said: “Our volunteers get involved in a whole host of activities. We are finding new and creative ways to ensure that we can keep doing what we do which is engaging with people and helping to influence health and social care provision.”

The new volunteer offer is even more flexible, allowing volunteers to make a difference from the comfort of their own home through video and telephone calls, making it even easier for people to join the volunteer team.

Volunteering from home, our volunteers have recently been involved in gathering people’s experiences of accessing local Urgent and Emergency Care services.  They have co-produced a report outlining their findings and making a recommendation to service providers in light of these experiences,” said Sandie.

Volunteers have shared their experiences about being a Healthwatch Doncaster volunteer, and there is all the contact information for the Volunteer co-ordinator to contact you for an informal chat about the opportunities available.

“The new volunteer offer is a great opportunity for people to get involved in Healthwatch and is so flexible we hope it will encourage more people to join us,” said Debbie Osborne, Healthwatch Doncaster Board member that leads on volunteering.
