International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose.
In response to this important event Doncaster Council and Doncaster CCG have come together to jointly fund a radio campaign focussing on the public being made aware of the dangers of strong prescription medicines and alcohol.
The radio campaign will also promote the fact that all local pharmacies take back unwanted medication for safe disposal. Also, pharmacists have been provided with alcohol scratch cards to have a discussion with customers who are picking up medications that can cause potential overdose when consuming alcohol.
