Health inspectors say a Doncaster GP practice is Outstanding

Doncaster’s second biggest GP practice is ‘Outstanding’ – and that’s official!

Staff from government health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) awarded The Scott Practice its top rating after giving it a thorough inspection.

Scott Practice staff celebrate their success

They said the practice, which has 14,000 patients and a branch surgery at Sprotbrough, was well led by the GP partners and were impressed with the care staff provide for vulnerable patients, particularly those coming to the end of their life.

The practice had previously been inspected in 2016, when it was given a ‘Good’ rating.

Practice Manager Rose Fells said: “The end of life care we provide is classed as gold standard and follows national best practice guidelines. We have two named GPs who, when a patient is nearing the end of their life, meet every week to discuss their palliative care needs.

“We are also the host employer of a team of health workers who operate across eight GP practices in the south west Doncaster area and provide care for very vulnerable people with complex health needs. Clinical staff help them to manage their long term health conditions so they can stay as well as possible and avoid emergency visits to hospital.

“The CQC inspectors also found that our staff really enjoy working here and that there’s a good teamwork approach.”

The practice has nine GP partners and a further two salaried GPs and is a valuable training practice for future family doctors.

Currently, seven GP registrars are training there, under the supervision of four of the senior GPs.

NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Chair, Dr David Crichton, praised the practice, saying: “This is a fantastic achievement and  official acknowledgement of the quality care provided to patients. The practice has become the fifth of Doncaster’s 42 GP practices to earn an Outstanding assessment, with the rest all being classed by the CQC as Good.”
