Final Doncaster COVID-19 vaccination service goes live this week

Following the successful launch of four Doncaster Primary Care Network (PCN) vaccination services last month, the fifth and final site in the East of the borough will go live this week starting from Saturday 9 January 2021.

Eligible patients will be invited by their local practice to book an appointment; at this stage, we are initially inviting patients aged 80 years and over with an underlying health condition that puts them more at risk from COVID-19.

It is important that patients do not contact their practice to ask when they can receive the vaccine; you will be contacted and please be assured you will not be forgotten.

The go live of the Doncaster East PCN vaccination service now means that all Doncaster districts are actively vaccinating residents with immunisations being given out to those most at high risk of complications should they catch the virus.

As the vaccination programme is rolled out and more vaccine is delivered, more people from other priority groups will be invited for immunisation in due course.

Jackie Pederson, Chief Officer at NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “We are delighted that all of our PCN sites across Doncaster are now live and vaccinating people against COVID-19. My message to Doncaster is to please be patient and understand that we are working tirelessly to invite as many people as we can who are most at risk, to have the vaccine. No one will be forgotten about and it’s very important that people don’t call practices to enquire about the vaccine – we are approaching the peak of the winter season with practice phone lines very busy with patients who need medical advice and treatment. Please wait to be invited and ensure your contact details are up to date with your local practice.”

As much as the vaccination programme rollout is great news, health professionals are encouraging everyone, including those who have had the vaccine, to please continue following the latest coronavirus guidance to help reduce the spread of infections in the town.

Dr David Crichton, local GP and Chair of NHS Doncaster CCG said: “It is vital that if you have received the vaccine, you still follow the guidance in order to protect our community. Even with immunity, you may be able to transmit the virus to others whilst not getting infected yourself so please, be mindful of your actions and wash your hands often, cover your face and make space. With another vaccine having been recently approved and more people across the country being vaccinated, I’m hopeful that 2021 will see us turn the tide and that we may return to some sense of normality in the months ahead.”
