Patient Transport Service (YAS only) Contact Information

***Prior to requesting transport from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS)***
Capacity to deliver the enhanced national service is extremely limited and should only be used as a last resort where there is no other clinically appropriate option. Prior to requesting transport from YAS, services and referrers must always first consider the following options:
- Availability of friends or family to transport the patient
- Voluntary sector transport options (e.g. Age UK, Red Cross)
- Booking NHS volunteer drivers through the GoodSAM app.
All direct bookings for discharges and essential outpatient journeys can be made with YAS through: 0300 330 2000
YAS PTS COVID helpdesk: 0300 330 5442 / open 07:00-19:00. After the desk closes, please select the option for the 24 hour unplanned desk.
GP Urgent transport should still be requested via the Booking & Screening office at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (01302 644592, 644593, 644594). Please see the ‘Doncaster Patient Transport Booking & Screening Office (DBTHFT)’ section below for more information.

– If there is a problem when local PTS liaison is closed please contact YAS via the Regional Operations Centre (ROC)
– The caller must request ROC to contact on call PTS Manager for assistance and provide name and contact number for the PTS Manager to call back on

Doncaster Patient Transport Booking & Screening Office (DBTHFT)
The Doncaster Booking and Screening office will arrange all non-urgent patient transport requests for all those meeting the national criteria including urgent GP referrals (not 999)

GP Urgent Transport Requests
For all emergency and life threatening transport call Yorkshire Ambulance Service on 999
For any patient that requires urgent but not immediately life threatening transport
(Within 1 Hour) call Yorkshire Ambulance Service on 0300 330 0295
1 – 4 Hour GP Urgent Patient Transport Service – St John Ambulance
For non-urgent GP transport requests where transport is required between 1 and 4 hours please contact the booking and screening team 01302 644592/3/4

All options will require a minimum amount of information to make a booking the below is a list of the REQUIRED information when arranging transport.
- Patients Details – Name, NHS number, date of birth
- Name of GP and Surgery Practice Code
- Name of requester
- Pick up address of patient and contact number for this address
- Mobility of patient i.e. stretcher/wheelchair/wheelchair transfer or walker/is patient over 16 stone
- Access to/from and the property – steps, ramp, narrow doorways/hallways etc.
- Diagnosis/condition
- Any infections e.g. MRSA
- Is there a DNAR in place, is patient on oxygen
- Will an escort be travelling with patient
- Has a GP carried out a home visit or was it a telephone assessment
- Destination details/address – Hospital ward or department
- Time frame in which transport is required (GP urgents – 90Mins, 120Mins, 240Mins)
- Any additional notes or comments
