NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will be celebrating this year’s Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday 27 June, in Sir Nigel Gresley Square. The day’s festivities will include a military parade through the town centre, face painting, the chance to run a military assault course, paintballing, live entertainment and stalls and refreshments.
As the local commissioner, the CCG is responsible for providing health services for veterans and their families. Alongside other public services, the organisation works in partnership across Doncaster to make sure ex-service men and women receive high quality, accessible care whenever they need it.
To support these aims, the CCG is a member of the Veteran Steering Group (VSG), a borough-wide partnership of organisations including Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, the Victoria Cross Trust and many other local interest groups.
The VSG meets each month to discuss how veterans can easily access public services such as education, employment, housing and healthcare, and address any perceived inequalities.
Emma Smith, Support Manager at the CCG, said: “We are proud to work on the behalf of veterans in Doncaster and form part of the Veterans steering group with other local organisations including the council, housing associations and the job centre to ensure that services provided to our Veteran community will be of a high quality, accessible by all who require them.
“Armed Forces Day is a fantastic way to celebrate our service men and women and I’d urge everyone to go out and show their support on Saturday 27 June.”
